When I tell people that I am an artist, the first question is normally, "what kind of artist?" I wish the answer was simple. Sometimes I wish there was a name for my particular brand of art... however, part of what makes what I do special is that there is no name for it. I explore many different mediums, and I particularly love mixing and matching. Nothing is off-limits...
Long ago in a land far, far away, I earned my BFA with a concentration in Fashion Illustration & Graphic Design. During school I found several niches doing print-making, illustration, artist books, & greeting cards.
Unfortunately as graduation neared I had to pick a path. Even though it was the riskiest, I wanted to do freelance. Fortunately, my favorite Professor was also the head of the Art Department. He helped me develop my freelance business early. He connected me with clients that were a good fit & showcased my strengths (looking back, they were a lot like training bras). While these simple jobs built my confidence, they also made me realize that to be a successful freelance artist I must appeal to a wide variety of clients. I already knew that my unique brand of art was marketable, & the "real-life" experience helped me gain an understanding of just how to market it.
Now I reside with my pit-bull, Sade, & a fantastic "Creation Station" (aka: studio) in Chicago (hopefully chicago is another training bra & New York will be my big-girl bra!). I continue to set myself apart with my diverse skill set. Even though I have a strong foundation in many avenues of art, I find it important to continue to learn & expand my knowledge of 'creating' everyday.
Thank you for allowing me to share my work with you. Ensley
